In my last blog on the platform series for SAP SuccessFactors, I covered Single Sign On (SSO) capabilities. In this blog I’ll cover the actual setup of SSO using the SAML option with Okta as the Identity Provider. If you are not familiar with Okta, they are the leading provider of Identity and Access Management as a Service.

As the modules and features in the SAP SuccessFactors HCM suite have increased, so have the volume and types of data that are stored in the system. A full suite implementation likely results in the SAP SuccessFactors suite being the system of record for multiple types of data such as HR, benefits, learning, compliance, recruiting, etc. As such there is an increased need to update and access data from the system. In this blog, I’ll look at the various data access tools that can be used to import and export data from the system.
In my last blog post I covered the SAP SuccessFactors Platform components and mentioned that one of the Platform components was Family, Roles, Competencies and Job Codes. I also indicated that Platform features are often overlooked in an implementation even though their configuration impacts many of the modules and the benefits that can be derived from the SAP SuccessFactors application. In this blog, I’ll look specifically at competencies and how they can be used across the SAP SuccessFactors HCM suite.
The Job Profile Builder is a platform feature in the SAP SuccessFactors HCM suite that provides a flexible and intuitive way to identify all the elements of a job and share them with your users. It is meant to be a replacement for the legacy Job Description Manager (JDM) so that a user can use this tool to control changes and updates to job profiles. The use of Job Profile Builder (JPB) also negates the need for the legacy Families & Roles (which I covered in my previous post), as JPB provides more comprehensive features to allow customers to build complete job profiles with multiple elements and types of content.
Clients frequently ask us how they can extend the feature capabilities of their SuccessFactors system in the event a critical requirement is not supported. For most clients, once they see the significant capabilities of SuccessFactors this is no longer an issue. For others, it can be a valid concern.
Most implementations of SAP SuccessFactors focus primarily on the modules being implemented. This approach overlooks the importance of the platform components and how they can impact the use of key features in the system. If platform components are not set up correctly, they can have a negative impact on the roll out of additional modules in future phases. In this next series of blog posts, we will look at the different components that comprise the SAP SuccessFactors platform and how these components can impact your overall ability to maximize the benefits from your SAP SuccessFactors implementation.
